The foundation stone for the new prison building in Landshut (Bavaria, Germany) with 515 places and 36 places for youth detention was laid on 22 April 2002. The first two construction phases of the new prison were completed in 2007. The third construction phase was completed in March 2010 and includes an annex for remand prisoners. The new building on the outskirts of the Lower Bavarian district capital, which cost almost 73 million euros, replaces the approximately 100-year-old detention centre in the centre of Landshut.

As a branch of the State Hospital for Forensic Psychiatry in Uchtspringe (Saxony-Anhalt, Germany), the Lochow Forensic Psychiatric Hospital has 80 places. About eight million euros were invested to convert a former Bundeswehr site for the tasks of the Maßregelvollzugs. It is located on an area of just under five hectares. Among other things, the facility houses patient rooms, service rooms as well as a kitchen and dining hall. The second main building, formerly a truck workshop, is available for occupational and sports therapy. Furthermore, there is a new building that houses the lock-secured entrance and exit area as well as the facility monitoring. The grounds are secured by a special fence. The fence is almost six metres high and made of NATO wire with climbing protection, detectors and camera surveillance.

The former Pestalozzi grammar school in Borna (Saxony, Germany) was converted and renovated to house the Borna district court. About 2,900 square metres of usable space are available for courtrooms, meeting rooms, offices and demonstration cells. A new entrance situation was created for use as a court. The facades, main staircase, corridors and the heart of the complex - an elaborately designed assembly hall - which serves as a courtroom, were renovated or restored in accordance with the requirements for the preservation of historical monuments.

In 2016, the fundamental renovation of the old building began. After four years of construction, the 30.1 million euro renovation of the listed building was completed in 2020. During the renovation of the district court, safety, fire protection, monument preservation and energy requirements in particular had to be implemented. The projection booths were also brought up to the current state of security technology as part of the renovation.

The new prison hospital at Leipzig Prison (Saxony, Germany) replaces the existing prison hospital. The neighbouring listed buildings of the original detention hospital were built in 1913 and are limited by the structural possibilities. The new building will create a contemporary standard for the central medical care of prisoners. The capacity of the prison hospital will increase from 70 to 80 beds. Of these, 50 beds are allocated to psychiatry, 25 beds to somatics and 5 beds to a ward suitable for wheelchairs to accommodate elderly or disabled prisoners. The furnishings of the infirmaries largely correspond to those of regular detention rooms. The infirmary rooms offer more space to move the infirmary beds in and between the rooms. In addition to the infirmaries, an outpatient clinic with an X-ray room and two specially secured detention rooms for the accommodation of violent or suicidal prisoners will be built in the building. The construction costs for the new building are estimated at about 15.8 million euros.

In 2018, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hamburg decided to establish a joint detention centre for deportees in Glückstadt (Steinburg district). A total of 60 places are available in the 28 million euro facility on the grounds of a former barracks, 20 per federal state. Schleswig-Holstein is responsible for the construction and operation of the facility. The facility was opened in August 2021.

Düsseldorf Prison (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) is located on a 125,000 square metre site in Ratingen. The facility has an occupancy capacity of 850 inmates and is mainly equipped with solitary confinement rooms. With construction costs of around 190 million euros, the facility is the largest investment in the NRW penal system in more than 60 years. Mechanical and motorised STUV high-security locks are used in the detention houses, visitor areas, sports halls and workshops as well as in the outer fences.
